Lenovo Yoga 720-15 Review

I had exactly 13 days to make use of this laptop that I received from a reseller. You also might also have to look for a reseller because this laptop is rarely available in most laptop stores. Here are my impressions and honest opinions about the Lenovo Yoga 720-15 review.

Looks And Build Quality

Looks And Build Quality

When it comes to the looks of Lenovo Yoga 720-15, at first look, everything looms premium. My laptop had a glossy aluminum finish with a Platinum Silver color, which looked great and sophisticated. In addition, its sleek 19.9 mm thin body also needs praise for looking great. As a 2-in-1 laptop, this device has a 360-degree display hinge that makes tablet mode significantly easier.

Whether you are sitting in a chair or in your bed, you can position this laptop comfortably in any position. I was able to use this laptop quite comfortably while sitting in my armchair and even when I placed it on my lap.

The backlit keyboard looks pretty great too. While it’s not an RGB keyboard like many other keyboards, it was still pretty sturdy, and typing felt smooth.

Display

When it comes to the display, there are two options available. While the touchscreen size will be 15.6”, there are two different resolutions available for you to choose from. One has the standard 1080p FHD resolution, while the other has a 4k UHD display.

Here, I used the 4K edition of the Lenovo Yoga 720-15. My laptop had the thinnest bezels on the side, which always look great, in my opinion. The display itself is pretty vibrant, and the touchscreen feels pretty smooth to use. I was surprised at how responsive the screen was while I used this laptop in 2-in-1 mode.

Battery

When it comes to battery power, the Lenovo Yoga 720-15 had below-average battery power. I charged this laptop to full before I started using it. After doing various types of activities, here’s a quick rundown of how long the battery lasted (unplugged):

TasksBattery Run Time
Gaming (Valorant, 1080p)2.5 hours
Netflix and chill (1080p)5.5 hours
1080p Video Editing (Adobe Premiere Pro)3.5 hours
Office Work (Google Docs and Sheet)8 hours

As you can see, this laptop only performed well when doing less intensive office work. Otherwise, it runs fairly short (and hot) on other resource-intensive tasks like gaming. This is weaker compared to the Apple iMac Pro i7 4k.

Connectivity Ports

Connectivity Ports

The Lenovo Yoga 720-15 has quite a few connectivity ports. Here, the main addition comes with the use of Thunderbolt 3 USB C-type ports. You can connect many devices using this port, including external displays and various USB sticks. In addition, data transfer through this port is approximately eight times faster tha a typical USB 3.0 port.

Peripherals

Peripherals

In addition to the smooth keyboard and mouse, you can use the Lenovo Active Pen 2 in toucvhscreeb mode. As a part-time graphic designer, I found this to be extremely useful since I was able to use the pen tool and the brush tool in Adobe Photoshop pretty easily.

Here, I enjoyed the addition of Windows Ink or Sketch – a typically unused app on most laptops and computers. Only a touchscreen laptop with a pen and make the best work out of this app. I had fun drawing doodles at night when I got bored while my internet was down!

In addition to the smooth pen, the Lenovo Yoga 720-15 also features the use of two JBL speakers on its sides. Enhanced with Dolby Audio Premium, I was able to hear high-quality sounds from this laptop. It felt great to hear the bass of my favorite hip-hop tracks, along with the great immersive audio of movies.

Performance

Performance

When it comes to the performance of the Lenovo Yoga 720-15, my reactions are pretty divisive. If you want this laptop for productive work and watching movies, you can buy this laptop without any second thoughts. The 7th Generation Intel Core i7 processor proved to be effective at handling various tasks at once. Multitasking felt like a breeze with this fast processor, even five years later, since this laptop was released.

The bootup time and application load times are also great, thanks to its 8GB RAM and 1TB SSD. Paired with the amazing processor, I was able to open multiple tabs simultaneously whole, using many applications. Here, video editing felt great since I was able to keep Adobe PremierePro and Adobe AfterEffects at the same time.

The only weakness of this laptop came in the form of gaming, which suffered because of the use of the ancient NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 graphics card. While this GPU was pretty powerful back in the day, its performance is pretty lackluster compared to modern GPUs. Other laptops like the Dell Alienware 17 R5 and the Dell XPS 13 performed significantly better here.

Lenovo Yoga 720-15 Customer Review

Here’s what customer reviews have to say about the Lenovo Yoga 720-15:

Love this laptop. Use it a lot for school and for gaming. There are only a couple of issues I had with it:

  1. The power block died within 2 years, and I had to pay $70 to replace it. Note that, since this is a gaming laptop, you HAVE to have a high-wattage charger in order to play games and charge your laptop. Otherwise, the charging will fail.
  2. The screen is so slim it will bounce slightly if I have the screen tilted back to watch a movie. I wish it was more stable and wouldn’t move.

Otherwise, it works great

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions):-

Gamers and laptop enthusiasts have asked many questions on the internet related to Lenovo Yoga 720-15 2 in 1 laptop. The answers to some of these questions are

Q1. What Generation Is Lenovo Yoga 720?

Ans: The Lenovo Yoga 720 (15) was released in the year 2017. It runs on the 7th Generation Intel Core processor.

Q2. Can I Upgrade Lenovo Yoga 720 RAM?

Ans: Yes, you can upgrade the RAM of the Lenovo Yoga 720 (15-inch). While it comes with the default 8GB RAM, you can upgrade it to 16GB RAM if you want.

Q3. Is The Lenovo Yoga 720-15 Good For Gaming?

Ans: No, the Lenovo Yoga 720 15” is not a great choice for gaming, especially in the year 2023. This is because it runs on a 7th Gen Intel Core i7 processor, which is quite nice. However, its main performance drop comes from its old NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 graphics card, which will not be able to run most modern games.

Final Verdict: Is The Lenovo Yoga 720-15 Worth It In 2023?

In all honesty, considering the price tag of $1,299.99 – $1,699.99, the Lenovo Yoga 720-15 is a bit overpriced at this price range, Considering the fact that this is a pretty old laptop released back in 20107, it lacks the performance expected from a laptop at this price range.

In my opinion, the only saving grace is its impressive 2-in-1 touchscreen. Apart from that, there are various other laptops in this price segment that provide more power. While the 7th Generation Intel Core i7 processor is pretty decent, its NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 graphics card is the real ancient one here. If you are a gamer, you will get better laptops with 12th Gen Intel Core processors and RTX graphics cards.
