In case you were wondering how Juile and David met, I have the tea for you!

Julie and David met each other for the first time at the second inaugural of Dwight Eisenhower as kids. While the two were always in public eyes, thanks to their Presidential surnames, they started dating each other when they were in college.

Both of them were studying in Massachusetts. Julie Nixon was at an all-girls Smith College and David Eisenhower was at an all-boys Amherst College.

The two descendants were reunited after years at an occasion of a luncheon where both of them were invited to. This was organized by the Mass. Republican Women’s Club. While David had accepted the invitation, Julie did not. They started talking when he called her up to verify whether she will be attending the lunch.

“He must have liked the sound of my voice, because he dropped by my dorm a few days later with his roommate, and we went out for ice cream,” Julie recalled in her mother’s biography.

The pair got married in the year 1968 on 22 December. They have been together for more than fifty years now and are still going strong. They have three children together. They are Jennie, Melanie, and Alexa.

Facts About Richard Nixon And Dwight Eisenhower’s Relationship!

There are no two partners that are as legendary as Nixon and Eisenhower. While Eisenhower was the 34th President of the United States of America, Nixon was the 37th President. However, Nixon was holding office as the vice president when Eisenhower was leading the country.

In his book Ike and Dick: Portrait of a Strange Political Marriage, Jeffrey Frank has thouroughly examined the relationship between these two national heroes. When asked about why Eisenhower might have chosen Nixon to be a part of his Presidential ticket, the journalist states:

“In a way he didn’t really choose him. There’s no one like Eisenhower today. He was a national hero. He was the supreme allied commander who led the Allied Expeditionary Force in the invasion of Normandy. Nixon was an Orange County senator who was best known for Red hunting and the conviction of [Soviet spy] Alger Hiss. So Eisenhower’s advisers thought Nixon would be a perfect running mate. He was an internationalist, and he supported the Marshall Plan. It was literally a classic smoke-filled room in Chicago that [resulted in] choosing Nixon.”

While it is true that there were a few times of political disagreement between the two, they had an otherwise very amicable relationship. And the marriage of their descendants also helped them mend their relationship.

This is what Jeffrey Frank has to say about how the marriage changed te relationship between the two former Presidents:

“It changed it a lot. One theory is that Julie Nixon charmed everyone. Everyone just sort of fell for her. She simply won over the Eisenhowers. And that also changed the idea [about Nixon], that anyone who had a daughter this charming couldn’t be all that bad.”
