Dell XPS 13 Overview

The Dell XPS 13 release date was 9th  June 2022 for preorders, with the official release date being 25th August 2022.

After getting my hands on this super sexy-looking laptop, I was eager to test its capabilities by pushing it to its limits. After making it go through a lot of tasks, I was fully able to analyze its strengths and weaknesses. Come have a look at this Dell XPS 13 review. Here, I used the Intel Core i7 variant with 16GB RAM and a touch display.

Looks And Design

Looks And Design

I have to be honest here – the Dell XPS 13 (9380) looks gorgeous. With a super slim body made of an aluminum chassis, this laptop looks like it’s from the future. This statement is further proven by its use of Sky and Umber colors, which gives it s minimalistic yet modern look.

If you are worried about the comfort of carrying this laptop in your bag, then be tension free, knowing that it’s pretty light. It weighs only 2.59 lbs, which is pretty light and can be easily carried in your bag.

When it comes to the interiors, it looks smooth as well. The backlit keyboard has its keys placed very spaciously. This is a boon for people who have a lot of typing to do (like me) since spacious keys mean fewer chances of hitting the wrong key. Plus, I believe the trackpad is slightly bigger than the standard trackpad size, making it pretty “optimized,” in my opinion.

Display

Whether you purchased the standard model or the Dell XPS 2 in 1 (touchscreen) variant, the display is pretty vivid. It’s just about what I expect from a Dell or an Alienware laptop since they don’t compromise on displays.

The touchscreen is great, being pretty responsive, and the surface of the screen being smooth to touch. I wish this was  a convertible laptop, with a Tab mode as well.

This laptop has a pretty vivid 13.4” FHD+ display. Therefore, it is slightly better than the standard FHD laptop. This laptop has a resolution of 1920 x 2000 pixels, which provides crispier and sharper images and videos on screen. In addition, it also has an aspect ratio of 16:10, providing a more pseudo “widescreen” display. However, I wish this laptop had a bigger OLED screen, which would have been perfect.

Battery

There are two aspects of its battery I am going to discuss – its overall battery life and its charging time.

If you use it for casual browning and watch YouTube videos, it will last for an average of 8 hours. However, if you watch high-quality 1080p movies and even do productive work, it can drop down to the 6-hour mark. This makes the Dell XPS 13 battery life pretty average compared to most other laptops in this price range and certainly better than most gaming laptops.

However, its impressive Dell ExpressCharge feature ensures that it charges to full battery in less than 1.5 hours. However, this is provided that you do not do any other tasks. If you as using this laptop while plugged in, it will take a full 2 hours to fully charge back up.

Performance

Performance

Compared to last year’s Dell XPS 13 (9310), this laptop has slightly better performance. Its great Intel Core i5 (or i7) processor is powerful enough to run the most demanding applications.

I used various applications like Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premier Pro, and even Blender. All these applications ran perfectly without any major hitches. Therefore, it’s safe to say that this laptop provides great performance if you are a multitasking professional.

However, its main setback comes in gaming. Even though this is not marketed as a gaming laptop, it provided less than preferred frame rates in AAA games. Most games like Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Elden Ring ran between 30 fps to 50 fps at low to medium settings.

However, if you wish to play multiplayer games, you can play Valorant and League of Legends at low settings. This laptop has enough power to provide 100+ fps in such competitive multiplayer titles, which is excellent.

ProsCons
➼ Modern and sleek design
➼ Crisp display
➼ Pretty lightweight
➼ Great productive performance
➼ Lots of customization options
➼ Needs more connectivity ports
➼ Poor webcam
➼ Below average gaming performance
➼ Pretty expensive
